Builder in Bexley

St Anthony Building Group works in Bexley and across the St George area, renovating and extending homes and building new homes, duplexes and granny flats. We are a licensed NSW builder (Contractor Licence 457054C).

Local planning

Bexley and Bayside Council

Bexley is in the Bayside Council area, so the Bayside Local Environmental Plan 2021 sets the main planning controls. Development applications are lodged through the NSW Planning Portal, and Bayside's online maps show the zones and controls for each property.

Bexley has no train station of its own. The nearest stations are Bexley North (T8) and Kingsgrove (T8).

Local planning

The Ocean View Estate heritage area

The Bayside plan includes the Ocean View Estate, Bexley Heritage Conservation Area. If your home is inside a heritage conservation area:

  • demolition and changes to the outside of the building generally need development consent;
  • the faster complying development pathway may be limited or unavailable, so many projects go through a development application;
  • the design of an extension or a new home needs to respect the character of the area.

Look up your address on the Planning Portal or Bayside's maps to see whether your property is in the conservation area before you settle on a design. If it is, a sympathetic renovation or rear extension can be a practical way to add space, and we can talk through the options with you.

Local planning

Outside the conservation area

If your Bexley home is not in a heritage conservation area or listed as a heritage item, the usual Bayside controls apply, and some projects, such as certain new homes, granny flats and extensions, may be approved as complying development if the block and the design meet the set standards. Others go through a development application. Either way, we check the controls for your lot first, so the design suits both your plans and the rules.
