Oatley homes on the Georges River

Oatley is a riverside suburb of bays and parkland, including Oatley Bay, Neverfail Bay, Gungah Bay and Lime Kiln Bay. About seven in ten occupied homes were separate houses in the 2021 Census.

Oatley Station is on the T4 line, the last St George stop before the line crosses the river to Como. Both the Oatley Railway Station Group and the Como Railway Bridge are listed with State significance in the local plan.

Local planning

Local planning notes for Oatley

Oatley is in the Georges River Council area, under the Georges River Local Environmental Plan 2021. Its waterfront and bushland bring several overlays:

  • Coastal mapping: About two fifths of the suburb, including the bays, is in the Coastal Environment Area, and coastal wetlands are mapped along parts of the shore.
  • Foreshore area: Parts of the waterfront are mapped as foreshore area on the Foreshore Building Line map.
  • Acid sulfate soils: Class 1 acid sulfate soils are mapped across more than a fifth of Oatley, with Class 5 land across most of the rest.
  • Bush fire and heritage: Some land near bushland is mapped as bush fire prone, and the heritage list includes Oatley Park and Baths, the Oatley Pleasure Grounds and the Oatley Memorial Clock.

Look up your address on the NSW Planning Portal, and ask Georges River Council for a planning certificate, before you plan work near the water.
