Mortdale homes and town centre
Mortdale sits between Penshurst and Oatley on the T4 line, with its own station and local centre. In the 2021 Census about 43 per cent of occupied homes were separate houses and about 41 per cent were flats or apartments.
The suburb also has a General Industrial area and a large share of parkland: about a fifth of Mortdale is zoned RE1 Public Recreation. It also reaches Lime Kiln Bay.
Local planning
Local planning notes for Mortdale
Mortdale is entirely in the Georges River Council area under the Georges River Local Environmental Plan 2021. On the planning maps, check:
- Zone and neighbours: R2 Low Density Residential covers about half the suburb, with E4 General Industrial and R4 High Density Residential land nearby, so the zone of your own lot matters.
- Acid sulfate soils: Class 5 acid sulfate soils are mapped across more than a third of Mortdale, with smaller Class 1 and Class 2 areas.
- Bush fire: Small parts of the suburb near bushland are mapped as bush fire prone, mostly as buffer.
- Heritage: Listed items include the Mortdale Railway Station Group, Mortdale Fire Station, Mortdale Public School and Mortdale Memorial Park.
Your address search on the NSW Planning Portal shows each of these, and Georges River Council can issue a planning certificate.
