Local planning
St George is not a council area
St George is a district name, not a local government area. The suburbs on this page are split mainly between two councils, each with its own plan: Georges River Council, under the Georges River Local Environmental Plan 2021, and Bayside Council, under the Bayside Local Environmental Plan 2021.
Some suburbs cross those boundaries. Kogarah, Carlton and Sans Souci are shared between Georges River and Bayside, and parts of Kingsgrove, Beverly Hills and Narwee are in the City of Canterbury Bankstown, under the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Environmental Plan 2023. Your rates notice, or an address search on the NSW Planning Portal, tells you which plan applies.
What changes from suburb to suburb
- Heritage: Hurstville, Bexley, Kogarah and Carlton have long lists of heritage items, and conservation areas apply in parts of Penshurst, Bexley, Kogarah, Hurstville and Brighton-Le-Sands.
- Waterfront mapping: along the Georges River, suburbs such as Oatley, Lugarno, Connells Point and Blakehurst have Coastal Environment Area and foreshore area mapping.
- Acid sulfate soils: Class 1 land is mapped in waterfront suburbs such as Blakehurst and Connells Point, and Class 4 land across most of Brighton-Le-Sands.
- Bush fire: parts of Lugarno and Oatley near bushland are mapped as bush fire prone.

I really like the way you built the house so beautifully and, most importantly, took responsibility from start to finish. I’m also particularly impressed with your painting work. You’re a very skilled painter.
